What to Expect in Phase 4

The home transition is one of the most exciting — and most critical — parts of your journey.
Phase 4 ensures you’re never alone in that process. Our trainers stay connected through weekly or monthly reports, direct support, and structured journaling that keeps progress measurable and communication open.

You’ll receive:

  • Six weekly training videos covering handler skills and transition tips

  • A fillable journal to track daily training loops and observations

  • Trainer feedback and check-ins

  • Guidance on public practice sessions and gradual exposure

  • Ongoing assistance with required follow up paperwork

Core Learning Topics

Phase 4 teaches both ends of the leash — the dog and the handler — how to work together confidently using the principles of Calm Progress.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Set realistic expectations during your first months together

  • Recognize and manage stress signals in your service dog

  • Build daily training loops that prevent errors before they happen

  • Use training games to strengthen bond and focus

  • Read basic dog body language and respond appropriately

  • Apply different practices for calm confidence in public

  • Transition from home practice to working public team status

Northwest Elite Learning in Action

This builds trust, confidence, and clear communication — the foundation of a long-term working relationship.

Trainer Connection & Support

Through Phase 4, we review video submissions, monitor journal entries, progress reports and offer personalized feedback.
This ensures that your dog continues to progress safely while you build confidence as a handler.

Support includes:

  • Scheduled check-ins at 48hours, 2 weeks, 4 weeks, and 8 weeks or more frequently as trainer determines

  • Access to trainer video feedback for public training clips
